Through a rich and varied experience in and beyond the classroom, the CFS Lower School nurtures children's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth.
The curriculum draws on the developmental theories of Jean Piaget, Vygotsky's understanding of the social construction of knowledge, and Howard Gardner's insights on multiple intelligences.
And, of course, learning is also shaped by the individual interests of our students and teachers.
The result: a meaningful and dynamic enterprise.
As they experiment and explore, answering questions of real relevance, children develop skills of inquiry and reasoning, problem solving, and communication that serve them well for years to come.
Located on the main campus of Carolina Friends School, rooms in the Lower School are open, colorful, and designed for maximum flexibility, providing space for both independent study and group learning as well as for play. In fact, in Fall 2015 we opened a new building and celebrated a complete renovation of the existing structures!
The large playground invites a variety of creative play activities, while the School's creek and wooded, rural setting offer an ideal environment for exploration and nature study.
We invite you to explore a CFS Lower School education for your child!
Lower School students pick their favorites from a variety of holiday-themed offerings. Choices this time included Coding with ScratchJr, Holiday Baking, The Grinch who Stole Christmas, and Gingerbread Houses (a holiday tradition for fourth-year students).
