Let's Get Started!
STEP 1: Please complete the online application.
STEP 2: After you have submitted your application, please return to the forms page to download your authorization to release information and recommendation forms.
STEP 3: Contact us to set up the next steps: parent tour if you have not already had one, parent interview or Early School observational visit, and student visit.
STEP 4: Arrange for teacher recommendations and transcripts to be sent to us if applicable.
Please use the headings below or at left to learn more about applying to each unit.
Early School (Ages 3-6)
Lower School (Ages 6-10)
Middle School (Ages 10-14)
Upper School (Ages 14-18)
Upper School - International Students
Students applying to Lower, Middle, and Upper School visit after we have received applications for admission and after their parents have toured. Applicants can visit starting in October, and we encourage families to schedule visits before winter break, since weather has challenged our schedule in recent years.
Early School Observational Visits and Play Sessions
After parents have toured and applied for students to attend one of our Early Schools, we arrange for them to have an observational visit to the Early School that they designate as their first choice. On this visit, you'll have time to observe children at work and to have a conversation with the Head Teacher of that Early School. You'll be able to talk about your child and ask questions about the program. We encourage you to apply and schedule your observational visit before winter break if at all possible.
We also schedule play sessions that allow us to meet our Early School applicants who will be at least 4 by September 1--on two Saturday mornings in January. After applying, please sign up for a play session through Kathy Krahenbuhl.
Carolina Friends School actively strives to be a community of staff, students, and families of diverse backgrounds. CFS does not discriminate based on age, race, color, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, socio-economic background, family structure, national or ethnic origin, genetic information, or military service in the administration of its policies and program.
When to Apply for 2017-2018
If you want your child considered in the first round of admission, please apply by January 15 (January 4 for Early Schools and first year Lower School). We are always able to offer admission to families who apply after those dates, too.
For the first rounds of admission, we coordinate notification dates with other schools in the Triangle Independent School Consortium. If you are applying to more than one Consortium school, we want you to have full information before deciding where to send your children to school.
For First Round of Admission
Application Complete by:
Early School – Lower School 1
Lower School 2 – Middle School 4
Upper School 1 - 4
* We recognize that some applications will be completed a little later than this date but urge submission of all materials as early as possible.
How to Afford a CFS Education
We want to work with you to make CFS an option for your child.
Although we do not participate in the North Carolina Opportunity Scholarship Program, we encourage applications from families who would qualify for this opportunity to apply for admission and for financial aid.
