Endowments: Essential to Our Students' Success
Endowments are fundamental to achieving the mission of Carolina Friends School today, tomorrow, and for decades to come.
An endowment is a gift that is donated for the ongoing, annual support of CFS. The principal of the gift is invested and kept intact and a percentage of the fund’s value is expended for the endowment’s purpose every year. This allows for the donation to have an impact over a much longer period than if it were spent all at once.
There are currently 27 endowment funds totaling more than $11,500,000 Our newest fund, The Kaia Parker Dance Endowment, was created in 2015 in memory of CFS alumna Kaia Glenn Parker.
CFS community members have created endowments to support a wide range
of purposes that reflect their passions: tuition assistance, increased diversity,
academic programs (dance, math, etc.), end-of-year trips, and much more.
And endowments have been created to acknowledge and memorialize beloved family members and CFS staff
Easy to Start
The minimum to create an endowment is $20,000. This can be donated at one time or over several years. You can use cash, shares of stock or mutual funds, an IRA rollover, or a gift in your will or estate plan.

Easy to Add to at Any Time
It's simple to make a gift of any size to any of our existing endowments. Whether you give on line, by check, with shares of stock or mutual fund, or in your will or estate plan, just indicate which endowment you want your gift to benefit.
The Power of Endowments
They constitute a permanent source of income (their principal is not spent).
Endowments help CFS in essential ways, including:
- supporting specific programs and functions
- offering opportunities for program quality enhancement and expansion beyond the resources available through tuition revenue
- presenting venture capital opportunities for innovative program development and experimentation
- providing a financial bedrock in times of fiscal stress
