We have Extended Day for children needing care before and/or after the 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Summer Programs course period each day, Monday through Friday. Extended Day is divided into two approximate age-based groups in different locations: the Lower School and the Gym. We offer Extended Day for all our students.
Indoor (air conditioned!) and outdoor activities are available to all students. Extended Day is supervised by adult leaders with college/high school assistants, with planned activities and the opportunity for reading or other individual time. Our supervisor to student ratio is about 1:8.
The fee for Extended Day is a separate charge from the course fee.
You may add Extended Day at any time with at least one week notice. Please note that there will be a $5 late fee assessed for every five (5) minutes beyond the registered Extended Day period. If you prefer not to pay on site, we'll bill you. Thank you!
There are four plans from which to choose:
|Morning (8:00 am drop off): ||$25 per week|
|Extended Afternoon I (3:00 - 4:00 pm pickup):||$30 per week|
|Extended Afternoon II (4:00 - 5:45 pm pickup):||$65 per week|
|Morning and Afternoon Extended|
(8:00 am drop off and 5:45 pm pickup):
|$75 per week|
What do we do in Extended Day?
Each age group has a sign-in sheet with a roster for that week. Please sign in and out!
Ages 4-8 generally meet in the Lower School area, as this is usually where their courses are held. Students in a session at our Campus Early School will be escorted there from the Lower School in time for the 9:00 am start.
Ages 9+ generally meet in the Gym area.
Because everyone arrives at a different time, the activities are more low-key: card games, board games, coloring, LEGOS, toys, etc. (for the younger campers).
At 8:55 am, Extended Day staff escort the students to their various workshops. Our morning staff includes high school and college-age assistants as well as at least one adult leader.
Our afternoon staff consists of at least one adult leader for each group and several college and/or high school age assistants (with lots of stamina!).
Ages 4-6 students in our Campus Early School programs are escorted to the Lower School by the high school-aged student who's been their TA during the day and who helps supervise them in Extended Care.
Ages 5-8 students (other than those in a session at our Campus Early School) meet in the Lower School. They can play indoors or outdoors with supervision:
- Outdoors there are basketball courts, soccer fields, slides, swings, and more.
- Indoor activities may involve dancing to music, reading (and being read to), board games, and craft activities.
Ages 9-18 meet in the Gym area. There are many spaces for students to play...
- the foyer for games, craft activities, foosball, cards, and reading
- gym for basketball, games, and other indoor activities
- gym patio for four-square and water games and soccer field for running or playing frisbee
- and a wooded area for playing Capture the Flag (a CFS Summer Programs favorite!)
Snack is served between 4:15 and 4:30 pm, always a big event of the afternoon! We serve homemade macaroni and cheese, freshly popped popcorn, cookies, quesadillas, cheese and crackers, watermelon, bagels and cream cheese, crackers, and fruit (we try to watch out for our peanut allergies). Sometimes we have cooking classes that want to provide a snack for the group (that's always a treat!).
Most of the students spend their time in our large air-conditioned gym playing group games like Spider Ball.
PLEASE NOTE: If your student has a food allergy and cannot eat a snack being offered, thank you for packing additional snacks in the lunch box/bag for Extended Day. Be sure to indicate on your medical permission form that your child cannot eat certain foods so the staff are aware. However, we have to rely on you to provide an alternative snack. Thank you!
